Scott Mitchell, Executive Director of the Greater Midland Tennis Center, has been appointed to the USTA Pro Circuit National Committee as of this November 2016.
"To be invited to serve on the USTA Pro Circuit committee is an absolute honor. I have been involved as a tournament director for many, many years with the USTA Pro Circuit, first on the men’s side and now on the women’s. To be part of an organization such as the USTA in this capacity and to help make a difference in these events and the lives of up and coming tour players is extremely exciting,” said Mitchell.
The USTA Pro Circuit was formed in 1979 to provide players an opportunity to compete against the world’s best athletes. Playing on the Pro Circuit allows players to gain professional ranking points needed to compete on the ATP or WTA tours. It is now the largest developmental tennis circuit with almost 90 tournaments each year around the world. This allows our American players the opportunity to earn ranking points without having to travel abroad.
“The Tennis Center is known for bringing people of all ages and skill levels together,” said Greater Midland President/CEO Kristen McDonald. "With Scott’s appointment to the committee, Midland will continue to be recognized as Michigan’s top tennis town.”
Mitchell, who joined the Tennis Center in October of 2015, has been a strong leader for our organization with his comprehensive tennis knowledge, vast experience with local and national tournaments, and ability to recruit high quality tennis pros.
Prior to joining Greater Midland, Mitchell served as Director of Tennis and Court Sports at the Landings Club – the largest residential clay court facility in the United States. In addition, he acted as director for the St. Joseph’s/Candler Savannah Challenger, a USTA Pro Circuit tournament. He holds Elite status with the USPTA and has achieved the highest level rating (5A) with the Professional Tennis Registry.
Scott resides in Midland with his wife and three children.
